I've got catching up to do...

More apologies from me are in order. Last year, my computer lured me away from our beautiful hobby with a form of virtual heroin... otherwise known as MMOs. All my hobby activities ceased to function due to this vile addiction that had me in its grips.

Now, with my newest game, World of Tanks, it made me fondly remember my days gaming on the table top with my own lovingly-painted representations of the iconic tanks displayed in that game. Returning to the hobby has never felt this good!

So, to start remedying the horrible state of the blog ring, I have painstakingly poured through old comments and the Battlefront forums thread, adding as many of the blogs that I could find. If I have missed yours, please leave a comment on this post and I will correct the situation.

Though I've got this ring off to a rocky start, I am hoping it will continue to grow and develop with your support.

Happy gaming, whatever your medium!

Apologies are in Order.

I realize that I have been neglecting this site for quite some time now. I need to take the time to apologize to the community for failing in my duties as the blog ring administrator, and specifically to the following:

To all the requests for new blogs to be added to the blog roll: I will add them ASAP.

To all my fellows in my local gaming group: I will try to get you all back in the loop.

To the guys at WWPD: Whom I have asked to help take on some administration tasks due to my inability to handle them myself.

As my time is short, that will have to do for now. In the future, you may see some changes, not least of which might be a change in management. Don't worry, it will be for the better! I promise!

Sincerely,
Matt

Hmm... Guess we need an update?

Hello all, CF/FP here, popping in to add some freshness to the blog ring's front page.

I know I have kind of let the ring kind of chug along on it's own, and I thought I might give you guys an explanation (read: excuse) for my absence lately...

First, my birthday came and went. I had intended on running a tournament of my very own for the first time, but an utter lack of participation by others really killed my desire to drive an hour each way to run an event nobody would show up to... So I was forced to drop the event. Not a proud moment, but Alaska just does not have the population needed to support a large number of wargamers. Oh well, maybe next year.

Also, my buddy just got a job working up on the North Slope, meaning he works a 3 weeks on / 2 weeks off schedule. So we don't get in games very often at all anymore (it has probably been over a month now).

Finally, there is a bill in Congress attempting to cut federal funding to my wife's place of work. She's in the education field, which we had thought would remain relatively stable, but apparently we were wrong. This has caused much stress in our household, as we try to juggle two toddlers and work related problems in addition to our normal poverty woes. It's high times in the FoxPhoenix household, let me tell ya...

What does all this ranting mean to you? Likely not much, but fear not! I will endeavor to make myself productive and finish some FoW models in the immediate future.

Keep on keepin' on, and I'll strive to do the same!

Votes are in! (Don't worry, I don't take absentees!)

Alright, the chips are down. The race was close, but in the end, only one remained!

Replacing my fugly old banner is this very pretty one made up by Hein, the nice gentleman who runs AV's Corner. Congratulations, Hein! Sorry I didn't have any prizes to send you. I'll try to remedy that.

Honorable mention goes to Justin, of ModelDads.co.uk. His excellent design lead a close race!

That's it for now, keep on keeping on!

1st Collaborative Post: Your Topic Goes Here!

Hey guys, Cannedflame/Foxphoenix here again. The blog ring is chugging along quite well, as we have over 25 blogs added to the reel already! Not bad for only being around about a month.

So, I think we finally have enough people to do a collaborative post. A collaborative post is more or less a bunch of posts by bloggers on the same subject, and I'll collect the links and put them on the same page with a summary of the topic. This makes it easy to find a lot of resources on a single topic. It also is good for us bloggers, as it gives us a topic to blog about if we don't have anything else going on.

So, for the first Collaborative Post, what interests you as a reader? What would you like to do a post on as a blogger? Submit some ideas in the comments below, and very soon we'll start a new collaborative post on a topic you want to read about!

Logo Design Poll

We only had two contestants put in submissions, but they are fine entries! So without further ado, here they are:

Designed by Hein of AV's Corner

Designed by Justin of Model Dads

Let the best Logo win! Sorry guys, no prizes, only Glory! Thanks to both of you for the submissions. They both really are excellent, and I look forward to gracing the blog ring with the winner!

Update on the Ring: Jan. 23 2011

Hello all, Cannedflame/Foxphoenix here. Just thought I'd throw up a quick post to keep the main page from getting too stale...

Just to let you know, we've been plugged by the talented and hilarious fellows over at Whatwouldpattondo.net in their most recent podcast episode: News Frm the Front, Episode 11. They said some very encouraging things about the blog ring and the blogging community as a whole, so go check them out. Great to listen to while painting!

In other news, my computer is having some technical difficulties (or rather, I need to pay my Internet bill). So in the meantime, thanks to the wonders of modern smartphone technology, I will be maintaining the blog ring from my trusty IPhone. Now you know why I can't pay my Internet bill, as these phones cost a bloody fortune. Anyway, point being: I may be slower at posting links as I receive them, but have faith that they will get posted (eventually)!

For myself, I've been hitting terrainbuilding hard, as I am hosting my first FoW event at the end of next month. I've been taking shots as I go along, so some new tutorials may be in order once the dust settles.

Keep on keepin' on,
Matt
